Based in Plymouth’s historic Barbican area, I specialise in unique, custom-made dresses inspired by the past, for weddings, balls, parties and events such as Carnival or ‘Fetes Galantes.’
The 18th Century – era of both Marie-Antoinette and Regency style – is my favourite, but I also make Renaissance, Medieval and Victorian styles, and I am happy to work with you on your historically inspired ideas.
Each design is thoroughly researched and inspired by original period patterns, illustrations or paintings.
I work only with period-correct natural fabrics such as silk, linen, wool and cotton.
I use historical patterns and methods, but these are just the starting point for wherever your imagination takes you.
With over 10 years of experience in historical dressmaking, I can source fabrics for you and provide advice on styles, appropriate underpinnings and suppliers of accessories.
Custom Made Historical Dresses
How to Order
Here is a rough guide to prices- feel free to get in touch with enquiries.
Regency/ Georgian dresses made with some built in adjustment and not requiring fittings, are available to custom order. Prices start from £350/£850 and examples can be seen in my Etsy Shop or on my Instagram Page
I can make your size, fabric and colour, choice plus small variations like sleeve length, neckline and trimmings, for the standard price. Extras like lots of ruffles, pintucks and elaborate trims will cost more. I do try to keep costs down and can source a lot of items quite reasonably, but be aware that special fabrics and in particular, trims, can add quite a lot to the cost of a gown. I try never to make the same dress twice so you can be sure that no other lady will be wearing the same as you.
In order to do my best work I am now offering custom-made dresses which require at least 2 fittings, plus a final try-on to ensure you are happy.
There is always a lot to discuss before I can give you a sensible quote for this kind of work, but prices start at £1,000. Lead is minimum 4 months, so please allow plenty of time.
Enquiries are very welcome, I am always happy to discuss frocks.
